Attendees at the recent NZ Council of Cargo Owners’ meeting were told in no uncertain terms how critically important it is for New Zealand to improve the productivity of the country’s port network.

Guest speaker My Therese Blank, Maersk Group’s Head of Oceania Market, addressed NZCCO members and affiliates including many of the country’s largest exporters, ports and international shipping lines servicing New Zealand. She emphasised the importance of improving the efficiency and connectivity of the country’s ports and landside infrastructure to maintain shipping capacity.

Ms Blank noted that New Zealand has become a relatively high-cost country for international shipping lines to service.

“Shipping lines need to optimise profitability within their fleets – we are already navigating global challenges such as geopolitics and severe weather, so it is crucial to keep an efficient supply chain to mitigate rising costs,” said Ms Blank. “Optimizing the performance of the port network is essential for a robust supply chain infrastructure.”
